At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, the School of the Osage High School Scholar Bowl team was recognized for a historic accomplishment—qualifying as a team for the national tournament for the first time in program history. The team will represent School of the Osage at the 2026 High School National Tournament, scheduled for May in Atlanta, Georgia.
The team earned its national qualification by meeting required performance standards and delivering strong results across multiple competitions, consistently posting high scores throughout the season.
This achievement builds on a successful 2025 campaign in which OHS captured the Class 5 District 5 championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament for the first time since 2015. The team was eliminated by Park Hill, which went on to finish second at the state tournament.
During the current season, the OHS Scholar Bowl team holds a 26–8 record. Their continued success led to an invitation to compete on the national stage, marking a milestone achievement for the program.
Several students also earned individual honors. Senior Kaden Langelier qualified for the Individual National Championship for the third time, an event held annually in Chicago. Students must finish in the top 15 percent of all competitors nationwide to qualify. Langelier is the first student in Osage history to receive this invitation and is also the school’s all-time point leader.
Hunter Burks qualified for the Individual National Championship for the first time this year. He previously placed 10th individually at the JV State tournament and currently ranks as School of the Osage’s third-highest point scorer, with the potential to finish second overall.
Sophomore David (William) Cassidy also qualified for the Individual National Championship this year, a notable accomplishment early in his high school career.
Much of the team’s success stems from preparation beyond scheduled practices. Team members dedicate significant time outside of practice to memorizing and studying a wide range of academic material that may appear in competition.
The historic season reflects the students’ dedication, discipline, and commitment to academic excellence, both in competition and in service to their school community.
